FORBES ENERGY, LLC. is a U.S. company convinced of the agricultural potential and the excellent geographic position of the Dominican northwest, as well as the increasing demand for biofuels in the world and introduction of RD-CAFTA, it plans to construct and operate a renewable energy, zero environmental footprint facility.

FORBES ENERGY DOMINICANA, S.A. and FORBES BIO-FUELS S.A., affiliates of FORBES ENERGY, LLC, are the corporate vehicles established to carry out the production of ethanol and related projects.

Our Project
The project will be located on a 30-hectare property, in the city of Manzanillo, municipality of Pepillo Salcedo, in the province of Montecristi. In addition to the production facility property, FED will use agricultural lands under concession to grow sugarcane to supply the ethanol plant. The State will receive direct revenues from the gross sales of ethanol, and the company will refurbish, maintain and build road infrastructures and public use services, thus improving the logistics in Montecristi.


The project intends to operate in two strategic sites:

1 – Forbes Energy Dominicana Industrial Park (dehydration, storage, workshops and logistics)

The industrial park is located at the entrance to the city of Manzanillo, the main city in the municipality of Pepillo Salcedo, province of Montecristi, located at the most western part of the Dominican Republic, 300 km away from Santo Domingo, DR. The municipality has a population of 8,100 (Census 2002), 4,000 of these live in the urban zone and 4,100 in the rural zone.

FED plans to conduct the following operations on this site: logistic center, dehydration plant, co-generation, fertilizer production and methane capture. In addition, FED will operate a railroad transportation system, industrial workshops, storages, warehouse tanks, and other ancillary activities.

2. – Features

The cogeneration industrial complex consisting of the production of ethanol and power is illustrated by the plots highlighted in green on the map, in a 30-hectare area. FED intends to establish operations on this site for ethanol distillation, dehydration and storage, power cogeneration, production of organic fertilizer and related activities.

The facility is 20 km away from the most important urban centers such as Montecristi and Dajabón. Politically, both cities are in the province of Montecristi, which has an 111,000-inhabitant population, 52,909 of which live in the urban zone, and 58,105 in the rural zone. The climate is semiarid, with an average temperature of 26.5ºC and annual rainfall of 700 mm, with average evaporation of 1,800 mm.
